Love Like the Galaxy is a 2022 Chinese television series that stars actor Wu Lei and actress Zhao Lu Si.
It is based on a novel and comes in two parts, with 56 episodes in total.
Synopsis / Story
It tells the story of Cheng Shao Shang and Ling Bu Yi.
Cheng Shao Shang is a young woman who grew up without the care of her parents. She was entrusted to her grandmother and aunt, but both of them neglected her, so she learned not to trust people and rely solely on herself.
Ling Bu Yi is a young army general who also grew up without his parents. He is cold and aloof, but a capable and much respected, and feared, warrior.
Their paths would cross when Shao Shang helps Bu Yi resolve a case. The latter would start falling for her even before he lays eyes on her.
As their paths kept crossing, they found themselves eventually getting engaged and falling in love, while navigating perilous palace politics, dealing with complicated family matters, and learning to trust each other.
Why It’s Amazing
Love Like The Galaxy is an amazing drama. It is one of the best Chinese television series I’ve watched. Below is a detailed discussion of the whys.
Engaging Plot
The plot is very much interesting and engaging.
It’s mostly a family drama where we get to see relationships between partners, between parents and children, and between in-laws and relatives, and each’s respective dynamics. We get to see that there is also politicking involved, even within a small family.
The story also touches on the life of the royalty, and palace and government politics.
And of course, at the center of it all is the romance of Shao Shang and Bu Yi, two scarred individuals who must learn to trust each other if they are to live together happily.
The plot is gripping. There are emotional scenes, funny ones, intrigue, suspense, and action.
The different family dynamics are fascinating to witness as they are deeply rooted in reality and resonated with me. For instance, you will commiserate with Shao Shang’s misgivings towards her mother, while at the same time understand the latter’s motivations.
Except for the last few episodes, the pacing was just right. With 56 episodes, the story mostly unfolds evenly and doesn’t drag; the majority of the scenes were needed to tell the tale and contributed to the whole.

Smart Writing
Love Like the Galaxy is well-written. The writing is sensible, intelligent, and not superfluous.
The last few episodes may have felt like they were rushed and a theme not in keeping with the earlier episodes may have been introduced, but it isn’t the first drama to suffer from such imperfections.
Strong Female Lead
Cheng Shao Shang is a strong character. Despite (or maybe because of it) growing up without the company of her parents, she has turned into an independent, strong-willed young woman who knows how to fight back. She isn’t perfect, but she’s courageous and resolute and able enough to protect those she loved.
She’s a breath of fresh air in that she’s different from the other simpering female leads in other dramas who seem to constantly be in need of saving.
Devoted Male Lead
Ling Bu Yu’s character is excellently written. While he is strong, intelligent, confident, compassionate and devoted, his tragic past made him a complex person. He is deeply bent on revenge, a sentiment that contributed to his disgrace and (SPOILER!) eventual fallout with Shao Shang.
Still, even if he wasn’t perfect, he was largely devoted to Shao Shang and was regretful of his mistakes. He was understanding, caring, and protective of her, and had eyes only for her.
Slow Burn Romance
The lovely slow-burn romance was done nicely. It unfolded at a steady pace that you can see and understand its foundation and how they developed feelings for each other.
I wasn’t bored while waiting for them to come together because there were swoon-worthy scenes that showed the development of their romance.
When they finally became a couple, they were tender and loving to each other, and cute together.
Their love for each other was strong and deep, it defied authorities and customs. Ling Bu Yi would do whatever it takes for Shao Shang, and she did the same for him.
Beautiful Cinematography
The cinematography of Love Like the Galaxy is splendid. Shots were beautiful and dramatic that they would evoke the right emotions from you.
Topnotch Production
It is well produced, too, which you can see in the way they paid careful attention to detail in the setting, costumes, accessories, and such. For example, Shao Shang’s accessories would always match the color or style of her dress.
Cast of Characters
Love Like The Galaxy is well cast. The actors fit their roles and acted capably.
The cast of characters is varied, and most of them are interesting that you’d be hard-pressed not to like or connect with more than one.
Everyone had great acting. You would love those who are meant to be lovable and hate those who needed to be hated, which means that they delivered their role effectively. Which is in turn a mark of good acting.
I also liked that some characters veered off from the usual mold, which is a breath of fresh air; like who you thought would be villains turned out to be the opposite.
Subtle Humor
The humor in this drama is intelligent and subtle but delivers the laughs nonetheless. I like it because it’s more natural and believable.
