These are my best fiction books in 2022.
I didn’t read as much fiction as I used to last year since most of what I read was nonfiction, but of the few that I did, these for me are the best.
When I say “best fiction books in 2022”, I’m referring to the books I read in 2022, and not exactly that they were published in 2022. So some of these were published in some other years.
They’re mostly romance, but some have suspense mixed with romance, and one is wholly a thriller. So if you’re looking for a good read, then you might want to check out these best fiction books in 2022.

#1 The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley
Synopsis
Looking to escape a difficult predicament at work, Jess goes to Paris to stay with her brother Ben for a while. What greets her when she arrives, though, is a no-show Ben, a mysterious apartment, and an oddball bunch of secretive neighbors. It looks like she’ll not only be spending her time in Paris trying to figure out her life but also start finding out where in the world Ben is.
My Take
The Paris Apartment is an engaging and page-turning mystery. I was on the edge of my seat, turning the pages to know what in the world was going on.
The writing is on point and paints an atmospheric setting that’s apt for a mystery novel. The plot is solid until the end.
It’s a must-read for mystery lovers.
#2 The Bodyguard by Katherine Center
Synopsis
Hannah Brooks is a bodyguard even if she doesn’t look like one. She gets assigned to protect Hollywood superstar Jack Stapleton from a stalker. Since Jack doesn’t want his sick mom to get wind of, and thus worry about, this problem, he asks Hannah not to divulge her identity and instead pose as his girlfriend. As they spend more time together, Hannah realizes she’s slowly falling for him.
My Take
The Bodyguard makes for one easy, feel-good read. It’s light, breezy, and nothing angsty.
The heroine is likable and the hero is swoon-worthy. Their romance is decent and cute and would check pertinent boxes if you’re looking for a romantic read.
#3 A Ruthless Proposition by Natasha Anders
Synopsis
Sweet Cleopatra Knight works as an assistant to arrogant and bossy Dante Damaso. They don’t like each other much. On a business trip to Tokyo, however, they shared a moment of passion but resolved not to act on it further. But some intentions don’t always go according to plan as their strong attraction keeps them going back to each other. And when life throws them a curve ball, they have to learn to face and admit how they truly feel.
My Take
Lovers of romances with ruthless, bossy heroes would take delight in this book. Dante is the kind of hero whose aloofness makes his falling for the heroine all the more sweet. He is cold to others, but sweet to Cleo in the end.
A Ruthless Proposition is not only a swoon-worthy romance that would give you the feels, but a well-written book too.
It had been on my TBR (To Be Read) list for a while, so I regret not picking it up sooner because I found it so good.

#4 Nora Goes Off Script by Annabel Monaghan
Synopsis
A struggling writer and single mom of two, Nora Hamilton turns her pain into gain when she writes her life story and it gets picked by a Hollywood production and turns into a movie. Hollywood superstar and once Sexiest Man Alive Leo Vance plays the lead role.
When the filming takes place in her home and Leo offers to pay her if he can stay a week longer after it ends, she can’t refuse. He clearly needs the respite and she the extra cash. As hours turn into a day and one turns into seven, they find out that a lot can happen in a week: people fall in love or they could get their hearts broken.
My Take
Nora and Leo’s love story is lovely. Their romance is sweet, without being cheesy. They were perfect together as they complemented each other.
I love the smart and witty writing of this book. Some passages are profound and would make you think.
I also love the comedy in the story, which is subtle and astute.
For more of what others I love in this book, please read my book review on it. This comes highly recommended because it’s truly one of the best fiction books in 2022.
#5 The Wing Man by Natasha Anders
Synopsis
Daisy McGregor is the plain-looking one among three sisters. So she’s surprised when handsome ex-model and ex-soldier Mason Carlisle pays her some special attention at a party. Turns out that that attention is fake, which she later learned. To make him pay, she blackmails him into being her date at her sister’s wedding. As the two spend more time together, Mason realizes how amazing Daisy is and starts falling for her.
My Take
I loved that the heroine in this book is not perfect physically, yet smart, witty, and full of spirit. I loved that the hero went past appearances and saw and recognized her awesome personality. He loved her despite the first and because of the second.
I picked up this book because I liked The Ruthless Proposition above and wanted to read more from Natasha Anders. This didn’t disappoint. The writing is clever and flows just as smoothly.
#6 The Love Act by Zara Bell
Synopsis
Zoe is a late-night show backstage employee who finds herself caught by the paparazzi in a comprising situation with famous actor Jack Hale. Things get out of hand when she has to pretend to be his girlfriend for financial reasons. As they put up a romantic front to the world, the line between what’s fake and what’s real starts getting blurred.
My Take
This, perhaps, is my most favorite on this list, judging by the fact that I’ve already read it twice in just a few months.
What makes this romance stand out in a sea of romance novels out there is the witty, fluid and solid writing, the fleshed-out multi-dimensional characters, and their swoon-worthy interactions that were described in much detail that you can very well picture in your mind. It’s truly a gem of a romance book and I’m so glad I came across it.

#7 Starstruck by Sariah Wilson
Synopsis
Zoe Miller has always been a fan of Hollywood A-lister Chase Covington, so when a tweet of hers placed her on his radar, spiked his interest, and landed her an extra role in his movie, she was over the moon. Soon they’re playing house and dating, but is there truly a future for these two different individuals?
My Take
Starstruck is a sweet romance. The main characters’ love story is pretty straightforward with barely-there angst. It just focused on the lovely process of falling in love, which is so nice because sometimes that’s all you really want in a romance book. No made-up outrageous misunderstandings between the couple; just sweet moments that would give you the butterflies.
#8 Midnight Hunter by Brianna Hale
Synopsis
Evony lives with her father in 1960s Cold War East Berlin. When their plan to escape to West Germany gets thwarted by Stasi officer Reinhardt Volker, she gets captured and taken by Volker to his home as his “prize” and trained as his secretary. Volker is cold, ruthless, and much-feared in the city and Evony wants to escape from him. But first, she had to earn his trust. But the more she got closer to him, the more she saw a different side of him, which made escape impossible.
My Take
This is a great book. Well written, well researched, and excellently paced, every page would capture your attention. Aside from romance, it has suspense and action. It also touches on politics and corruption.
I love historical fiction and non-fiction alike and when you throw romance into the mix, then consider me instantly sold. What’s more, when the romance is as good as this, then I’m definitely in romance heaven.
If you like to read historical romance books where the anti-hero gets the girl, then don’t miss this book.
#9 How the Marquess Was Won by Julie Anne Long
Synopsis
Phoebe Vale is a teacher who got a short stint as a paid companion to an heiress. That heiress is set to marry Julian Spenser, Marquess Dryden, who needs the marriage to restore his family’s legacy. When Phoebe and the Marquess had a series of accidental meetings and felt attracted to each other, then that was when the conundrum began. Can their love forsake all else?
My Take
This historical romance set in England is wonderful. While the plot isn’t new–star-crossed lovers in a forbidden romance–the execution was great. The plot moved along at an even pace and the events that happened were so interesting that they would make you go on reading.
The development of the two main characters’ relationship was well done–they actually got to know each other, had an engaging repartee, and a romance full of swoon-worthy tension.
I like that the heroine may be plain-looking, but she is smart, witty and feisty.
If you like a well-written and well-plotted historical romance that doesn’t drag and where the plain-looking girl gets the hero, then this is an excellent choice.
