Another Miss Oh
Another Miss Oh gives us a love story that’s raw and real. The plot is intriguing as the male lead caused the break up of the female lead’s wedding to another man, which she didn’t know at first. Conflict ensues as a result when they fall in love and it’s then that we see how love trumps all, even deceptions. Plus, this has one of the best real kisses in Korean drama.
The Greatest Love
An A-list actor falls in love with a washed-up pop star in this romantic comedy by the Hong sisters of the famed The Master’s Sun.
The conflict in this drama stems from a believable and decent love triangle and the fact that the female lead is hated by the public which makes it difficult for the A-list celebrity male lead in some ways.
The romantic grand gesture by the male lead in declaring his love for the female lead on national TV is one for the books.
Coffee Prince
What could get more romantic than a guy falling for a girl he mistakenly thought was a boy? This is partly what Coffee Prince was about, while the rest explored the romance that comes after, which is just as romantic, if not more so.
The execution of the mistaken identity premise was fun and lovely. It was incredibly moving to see the male lead accept and embrace the fact that he was falling for who he thought was a guy–a mark of true love, indeed!
My Secret Romance
Two people get a second chance at love in this romantic drama. In what was a case of mistaken identity, boy and girl had a one-night stand that ended when girl left without saying goodbye the morning after. Boy was mad about this. Fast forward to years later and they meet again when girl works for boy.
This drama is binge-worthy because it’s sweet and—true to its title—romantic. The suspense of finally seeing these two come together again would have you on the edge of your seat and sighing in giddiness.
Strong Woman Do Bong-Soon
Strong Woman Do Bong-Soon is about a girl with superhuman strength who uses it to fight bad guys and help people. So there’s action and suspense, but there’s a good dose of romance as well. And boy, the romance portion is just as dreamy!
There’s not much conflict between the two leads, so more showtime is devoted to them building up their relationship and developing as a couple. And that building up and developing are really swoon-worthy. We see them in scenarios that are tender and just couple goals.

The Master’s Sun
The Master’s Sun is about a girl who can see ghosts and the male lead is the only one who can stop it from happening. It’s a fun and exciting drama, and what makes it romantic is how the male lead protects the female lead. Both of them gave great performances and the chemistry they share is fantastic.
The Heirs
The Heirs is another rich guy-poor girl drama. It’s cliché-filled, but it’s well written and the way the male lead forsakes all others to get his girl is romantic. The confession scene was also one of the most unique and sweet.
King2Hearts
King2Hearts, my number 2 favorite Korean drama (maybe my number 1, on a good day), is as romantic as it is epic.
South Korea’s crown prince (South Korea is a constitutional monarchy in this drama) falls in love with a North Korean special forces officer and both encounter many challenges because of their romance. But, as they say, love conquers all. And conquer they did—epically, at that.
This romantic drama is also full of action and suspense. It’s absolutely great all around. Watch it here.
Secret Garden
Secret Garden is a romantic comedy with the perfect blend of romance and comedy. The comedy is laugh-out-loud and the romance is solid.
It’s heart-tugging seeing the male lead pursue the female lead relentlessly, even going as far as making up scenarios just to get her—oh my heart! He didn’t let up until he got the girl. How can any girl not swoon to that, right? That makes Secret Garden a definite must-watch for any romance fan.
W: Two Worlds Apart
W: Two Worlds Apart is one of the most unique Korean dramas on Netflix in terms of plot. The female lead falls in love with a webtoon character (like a comic character) created by her father. This makes for one fun, exciting, and suspenseful ride as mysteries abound the whole season.
The chemistry between the two leads is spot on. Both make believable performances as star-crossed lovers who come from different worlds and have to fight for their love.
Boys Over Flowers
Boys Over Flowers is South Korea’s version of the popular Japanese manga series of the same title, Boys Over Flowers.
This manga series was so well-known and well-received that it has several adaptations from other countries. Hana Yori Dango from Japan, Meteor Garden from Taiwan, Meteor Garden Chinese version, and F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers from Thailand.
South Korea’s Boys Over Flowers is the drama series that brought back Korea on the world entertainment map as it gained popularity among viewers.
That isn’t hard to fathom since while it may not be the best Korean drama on Netflix, still, it has a lot of many exciting moments that would keep the viewers intrigued and glued to their seats. It has all the drama clichés—rich boy-poor girl, disapproving parents, etc.—that keep the plot dramatic and long.
Why is it romantic? The rich male lead defies all others to get the poor girl, does a character turnaround, and waits for her until the end. What could be more romantic than that, right?
Also, the songs in this drama are amazing. Get the DVD here.
Crash Landing on You
Crash Landing on You is a Netflix original that again brings together star-crossed lovers from North Korea and South Korea, a situation that makes for one thrilling plot, indeed.
The story revolves around a North Korean army officer who falls in love with a rich South Korean heiress. How the two came together was rather interesting: girl who was paragliding got sucked into North Korean soil by a tornado or a storm. Good thing it was our male lead who found her or she would have been in a lot of hot water than she already was.
At any rate, their love isn’t a walk in the park. As you might expect in cases like this, there are a lot of roadblocks to reaching that happy ending, if at all. Viewers then are kept wondering if the two of them will make it together in the end. I’m not telling, so you need to watch to know how it ends for them, heh.
Why is it romantic? The male lead does a lot of romantic things for our heroine that make us sigh, including (spoiler alert) crawling inside a really narrow tunnel on his stomach for (if I remember correctly) more than twelve hours.
Plus, it has some really good songs that play right on cue, thus highlighting beautiful moments and putting more emotion into them.
All About My Romance
All About My Romance is one of my favorite romantic Korean dramas on Netflix.
While the title may make you think that all this drama showcases is the romance of the two leads, that certainly is not the case. Set against the backdrop of South Korea’s political scene, it touches on the lives of politicians being such too.
Our two leads are members of Congress from two opposing parties, the majority and the minority. They started out as rivals and enemies, going as far as bickering and hating each other in public. But as some would say, hate is really love in disguise. While that may not be necessarily the case for our two protagonists, the hate certainly turned to love.
This enemies-to-lovers drama is both romantic and thrilling.
The romance between the two leads is sweet and exciting as they fall in love behind closed doors, so to speak. They’re cute together and their devotion to each other despite the odds is couple goals.
It’s thrilling because there’s that element of suspense as to how everything plays out when everyone finds out that they’re secretly dating each other.
It is also very funny that I was laughing most of the time watching it. And just all-around fun, really. Watch it here.
Updated on August 2023 to add below:
Love to Hate You (2023)
Love to Hate You is a 2023 Korean drama from Netflix. It tells the love story of Yeo Mi Ran, a female lawyer, and Nam Kang Ho, a popular actor.
Mi Ran is a feminist, very liberated, and fights for the equality of women. Kang Ho had been burned by a past love affair and suffers from anxiety whenever he gets in close contact with women.
Mi Ran and Kang Ho got off on the wrong foot but to make the story short started working as the latter’s lawyer. A few incidents forced them to start fake dating each other, which eventually led them to fall in love.
This drama is the first Korean drama that captivated me after so long of dropping K-dramas left and right. I liked that it told its story in a brief and concise manner, without leaving out anything important or dragging story arcs unnecessarily. The ten episodes have been just perfect to cover all the bases.
The romance was great, too — well-acted, very natural, believable, and swoon-worthy. Mi Ran and Kang Ho’s chemistry leaped off the screen, they were so good together.
My only complaint was how they made Mi Ran too liberated that she came off as somewhat bordering on being promiscuous. They could have toned down her playing around a bit… Still, it was a great drama that delivered on the romance so give it a try.
